The Barn Cottage offers self-catering accommodation for two in a beautiful and peaceful rural setting.
Thoughtfully converted by owners Sarah and Mike in 2011, Barn Cottage provides a warm and sunny open-plan living space. The sitting area has a large double sofa to relax on and a digital television and DVD player for your entertainment. Meals can be eaten in comfort at the table for two in the dining area, while French windows open out onto a south-west facing sun terrace with table and chairs for warm Summer evenings. The well-equipped kitchen includes hob, oven, fridge and washing machine/dryer as well as all the cooking utensils, pots and pans you will need.
The comfortable and cosy double bedroom looks out onto the garden and ensures a good night's sleep surrounded by the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. The separate modern shower room consists of a large luxuries corner shower with wash basin and toilet.
There is plenty to do and see in the area. Bath and Longleat are a short drive away, as is lovely Bradford-on Avon with its picturesque canal, attractive shops and cosy tea rooms. National Trust properties such as Stourhead, Dyrham Park and Lacock Abbey are all close at hand, too. Walkers and cyclists will find a wealth of country lanes and bridleways to explore, and the Wiltshire Cycle Way and Macmillan long distance footpath both pass through Rode. Rode itself is a pretty stone built village with a fascinating history and recently featured in ITV1's dramatisation of Kate Summerscale's prize-winning book, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher.
Barrow Farm is a small farm nestled in a picturesque location near the River Frome and on the edge of Rode. Home to a small flock of Wiltshire Horn sheep, free-range chickens and, for six months of the year, a couple of rare-breed pigs, Barrow Farm has 'pick your own' soft fruit in the Summer and a small shop selling soft fruit and apples in season. Fresh eggs are also available if the chickens are laying! The farm has fishing rights, so if you have a rod licence then you are welcome to fish. Sarah and Mike also run a small Caravan Club five-van site situated to the rear of the farm behind their orchard.
From the cottage it is a five minute walk to the centre of Rode where there is an excellent post office/village Store, three eating pubs and bus services to Bath, Frome and Chippenham. The Barn Cottage is fully centrally-heated and available for holidays and short breaks all year round. Car parking is to the side of the cottage. Regrettably we cannot accommodate smokers or dogs.
